Smart Tech Trends

15 years ago, a soft close toilet seat was the latest in bathroom technology, now its expected even on entry level products. The advances in smart features in the bathroom are consistently evolving. Now 77% of homebuyers are looking for a home with ‘smart’ innovations.

A survey conducted by technology company Digital Bridge (completed by 1,100 consumers) found that nearly 50% surveyed believe that the bathroom will be the most technologically transformed room in the future, with ground-breaking innovations such as augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI).

Two of the leading innovations people would like to see were; facial recognition, which automatically sets the user’s preferred lighting and water temperature when they enter the bathroom and an in-shower voice device which allows you to add toiletries and other essentials to your shopping list from your shower. Other ideas included a full body air-dryer and height adjustable sink, toilet and mirrors. Even this year there is exciting news from some of our suppliers regarding major advances in technology due out. So, watch this space, as all of this could soon be a reality in your bathroom!

In this February blog, we discuss the latest technology for one of the most used rooms in your home….. the bathroom.

Multi-Functional Mirrors:

The humble bathroom mirror has come a long way from just being an aesthetically pleasing piece of glass. Now there are an array of multi-functional mirrors and cabinets that incorporate things such as; Bluetooth technology, allowing you to listen to your favourite music whilst in the shower or bath, wireless phone charging pads, pioneering demisting technology, clever adjustable lighting, as well as USB ports and 2 pin integrated charging sockets.

Sensor Taps:

One of the key benefits of a sensor tap is hygiene. The infra-red touch- free technology helps to stop the spread of germs and bacteria through cross contamination between users. Sensor taps also provide a highly practical water and energy efficient solution. Using a pre-set temperature and flow rate there is no need the expend energy changing these.

Making them much more water efficient which is a huge plus for the environment and your water bills!

Digital Personalised Showers:

For your perfect shower that is always at the exact temperature you want, digital personalised showers mean that you can pre-set and store your own personal shower profiles. From innovative digital push button shower valves that offer tailored bathroom experiences, allowing up to three users to store their temperatures, flow and bath fill preferences, to WiFi connected smart shower controls that are activated from your phone, a remote control or by using voice activation to easily control every feature such as, “Alexa, turn on my shower”. Shower technology just got super smart!

Smart Toilets:

For an innovative, fresh and more hygienic clean, smart toilets come with an extensive range of customisable features, all at the touch of a button. Features include: remote seat opening and closing, multiple washing options, adjustable drying temperatures, seat temperature options and a self-cleaning jet nozzle. All of which provide not only an enhanced bathroom experience but an eco-friendly one too, due to a significant reduction in toilet paper used.

Smart Lighting:

Ground-breaking lighting now helps you personalise your bathroom sensory experience, whether that’s wanting to feel more energized in the morning or creating a relaxed and calm sanctuary in the evening. Bluetooth lights feature a Bluetooth-enabled speaker that allows you to play your favourite music, podcast or audio book straight from your device. The remote control allows you to adjust the volume, skip a track and even change the dimmable LED light from cool white to warm white or switch between a spectrum of red, green and blue hues to create a whole new level of personalised ambience.
